FC Barcelona players called up for international duty

After the weekend’s visit to Osasuna in La Liga, many of the Barça players will pack their bags to join up with their respective international squads for the upcoming break in La Liga for national team fixtures around the globe. Lamine Yamal, Balde, Gavi, Ter Stegen, Gündoğan, Christensen, De Jong, Kounde and Raphinha are the blaugranes who will be in action during the September international break with Yamal grabbing the headlines due to his first call up for the senior national team.

Lamine Yamal in the Spain squad

The 16 year old Barça player has been called by Spain coach Luis de la Fuente for the upcoming Euro2024 qualifying matches on 8 September against Georgia and on 12 September against Cyprus. Fellow blaugranes Alejandro Balde and Gavi are also included in the squad. Should Lamal make his debut, he will take his teammate Gavi’s record as the youngest player ever to represent Spain at senior level.

Ter Stegen and Gündoğan called up by Germany

The Barça keeper and midfielder are both in the squad for Germany’s two home friendlies over the international break. Hansi Flick’s team face Japan on Saturday 9 September and then France on Tuesday 12 September.

Last minute call up for Raphinha

Barça’s Brazilian winger was not originally named in the squad named by coach Fernando Diniz but injury to Real Madrid striker Vinicius Jr opened the door for the blaugrana for the canarinha’s World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru

Christensen with Denmark

The Danish centre back is a veteran at international level having already made 65 appearances for the Danish national side. Christensen is part of the Denmark squad that faces Euro2024 qualifiers against San Marino on 7 September and Finland on 10 September.

Kounde a fixture in the French squad

Jules Kounde is again called up to the French squad for the Euro2024 qualifier on 7 September against the Republic of Ireland and for the friendly against Ter Stegen and Gündoğan’s Germany on 12 September.

De Jong joins up with the Netherlands squad

National team boss and former Barça player and coach Ronald Koeman has included Frenkie de Jong in his squad for their upcoming Euro2024 qualifiers. The first of those games is against Greece on 7 September and the second comes against the Republic of Ireland on 10 September.
