Manchester United are keeping an eye on FC Barcelona’s defender Joules Kounde who is reportedly falling out of favour with head coach Xavi Hernandez, reported Team Talk on Saturday.

Barcelona’s surprising shift in attitude towards Kounde caused a ripple in the transfer market. Once deemed an indispensable asset in their defensive lineup, the Frenchman now seems to be available for sale.

This change presents a lucrative opportunity for Manchester United, a team facing defensive issues. Persistent injuries and inconsistent form among current defenders have left United in need of stability at the back, and Kounde’s potential availability could be the solution.

The Red Devils’ defensive performance has been a conundrum this season, lacking both consistency and reliability. The re-signing of Jonny Evans hasn’t fully addressed the gap, and with the possibility of players like Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane departing, a defensive overhaul is urgently required.

Kounde, a previous target of United’s interest, could bring the much-needed solidity and skill to their defensive core, especially considering his impactful performances with Barcelona.

Despite being a crucial player for Barcelona, recent concerns over Kounde’s form, notably highlighted in a Copa del Rey defeat against Athletic Club, may have prompted the Blaugrana to consider negotiations, creating an opportunity for United.

The prospect of securing a defender of Kounde’s calibre under these circumstances is uncommon and could represent a strategic move for United’s defensive strategy.

United’s pursuit of defensive reinforcements extends beyond Kounde. The club is reportedly exploring other talents such as Jean-Clair Todibo, Jarrad Brathwaite, Edmond Tapsoba, and Antonio Silva.

Each player brings unique attributes and potential, providing United with diverse options as they seek to rebuild and fortify their backline.

Barcelona’s unexpected stance on Kounde, combined with United’s defensive challenges, sets the stage for a potential strategic acquisition. The upcoming transfer window will be pivotal for United as they navigate these transformative times in their defensive department.
