FC Barcelona Scraps ‘Messinho’ Transfer For This Factor, Reports SPORT

FC Barcelona won’t pursue a potential transfer of Palmeiras prodigy Estevao Willian, also known as ‘Messinho’, because of one overriding factor according to SPORT, which cited anonymous sources.

With teammate Endrick’s passage to Real Madrid already secure, Messinho is the talk of Brazilian football when it comes to the South American country’s young talents.

SPORT‘s rival publication Mundo Deportivo has continually linked him with a move to Madrid’s eternal enemies Barca, with the youngster telling the paper that playing for the Catalan club one day would be a dream come true.

“My biggest dream is to play for Barca,” said Messinho, who is represented by the Blaugrana’s former eyes in Brazil, Andre Cury.

Cury is also the agent of Barca forward Vitor Roque, who joined Xavi Hernandez’s squad at the turn of 2024 as part of a transfer which be worth more than $65 million if he hits a number of objectives.

“Barca should think about signing Messinho because he would bring a lot of joy to the fans along with Vitor,” Cury said to RAC1, while also revealing that offers have come in for Vitor Roque.

“I bet on him because he is the new Neymar,” Cury added.

Even if that is the case, SPORT reports that Barca has decided not to pursue Messinho.

This development has nothing to do with factors such as his talent, personality or family background, however.

Instead, the Catalans do not view signing a wonderkid for the right wing as necessary considering they already have one of their own in that area of the pitch.

Serial record breaker Lamine Yamal is already more than enough to boast in that area, and has become a regular starter for club and country at 16 while applauded off the Bernabeu turf by Spain fans after dazzling Messinho’s native Brazil in a 3-3 draw last week.

Rather than bring in extra competition for Lamine, who battles for minutes against Raphinha, SPORT says Barca will try and create the best possible conditions for the Mataro native to thrive and fulfil his very obvious talent recently rewarded by Adidas with a new sponsorship deal.
