Real Madrid Frontrunners to Sign Franco Mastantuono, Barcelona Out of Race -report

Real Madrid has emerged as the frontrunner to sign highly-rated Argentinian midfielder Franco Mastantuono from River Plate, according to a report from Spanish outlet MARCA. Barcelona, previously interested in the 16-year-old, have reportedly cooled their pursuit.

Negotiations are reportedly underway between Real Madrid and River Plate to potentially lower Mastantuono’s €45 million release clause. An enticing factor for Real Madrid is Mastantuono’s Italian passport, which would eliminate work permit hurdles often faced by young South American players in Europe. Madrid could offer River the chance to keep Mastantuono until the 2025-26 season, per that same report.

Primarily an attacking midfielder, Mastantuono is known for his creativity and left-footed play. He is widely regarded as one of Argentina’s most promising young talents, and Real Madrid appears keen to develop him into a future star for La Liga. While a move this season seems unlikely, Real Madrid’s interest underscores their belief in Mastantuono’s potential.
