The Barça could have to share Montjuïc with the Girona by fault of the Champions

It will REMAIN MONTILIVI WITHOUT CHAMPIONS?

The Girona recently attained a worthy feat to be related, since in the season 2023-24 achieved to classify for the first time for the phase of groups of the Champions League. However, this idea idílica has gone complicating to the step of the time, mainly because of the regulation of the UEFA. In the first place, the fact to belong to the City Group, a society that controls 13 clubs all over the world, included the Manchester City, that also classified for the League of Champions, would bump with one of the principles of the organ rector of the European football: “Any club that participate in a competition of clubs of the UEFA can, direct or indirectly, request or negotiate values or actions of any another club that participate in a competition of clubs of the UEFA…”.

Now, the combined gerundense could confront another problem with the UEFA. This would be related with the option to play his parties like venue in his usual stadium, the Municipal Stadium of Montilivi, an exploit that, by the moment, seems little feasible, as the mentioned by the president of the club, Delfí Geli: “we Are working on the possibility that the Champions play in Montilivi, that is what would like us and understand that the people of the Girona wants that the competition play here”, aseveró the mandator to the microphones of ‘Què t’hi Jugues!’.

However, this task does not seem to be the simplest, since Montilivi, by the moment, does not fulfil with the suitable conditions demanded by the UEFA to house the parties of European competitions. As it commented in ‘The Nacional.cat’, the main problem roots in the capacity, since although the picture ‘Gironí’ employs retractable terracings that can expand the capacity until 14,000 viewers, the UEFA does not admit this type of enlargement, what would reduce the capacity to 9,000. Besides, the UEFA also requests to the Catalans make more improvements, like adapting the parking, create zones VIP, improve the room of press and adapt the spaces for the press, between other things.

The Girona and the FC Barcelona could have to share Montjuïc in the Champions

With all this in mind, would not be surprising that the Girona was considering seriously look for a near alternative that fulfil with the requirements of the UEFA, and this option could be the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, the stadium where at present plays the FC Barcelona. As it aims ‘Esport3’, the conversations between the combined ‘albirrojo’ and the City council of Barcelona to carry this to cape are quite advanced, although the agreement still is not closed.

Under this stage, the Girona, although his main idea keeps on being to play in Montilivi, the stadium where already made history, no descarta move to Montjuïc to contest exclusively his commitments like venue in the League of Champions. Besides, as it contributed ‘SPORT’, apparently already descartó the option to play in the Stage Front Stadium, the home of the RCD Espanyol, on economic grounds because of the high financial requirements of the combined ‘parakeet’.

Now, if finally it carries out, the Barça and the gerundenses would share stadium for the League of Champions at least in the first part of the season 2024-25, with all the logistical considerations that this involves. Nevertheless, with the return of the Barcelona club to the Spotify Camp Nou, programmed for finals of 2024, the Girona could remain only in Montjuïc, in spite of the fervent wish of the fans to keep it in Montilivi to live the magic nights of the UEFA Champions League.
