Barcelona gem’s renewal talks progressing well, optimism over an agreement
Barcelona are in the process of finalizing a contract extension with their promising young defender, Pau Cubarsi, and reports from MARCA indicate that negotiations are progressing smoothly.
At just 17 years old, Cubarsi is considered a key player at Barcelona, and the discussions between the club and the player’s representatives have been very positive.
Sources involved in the negotiation have expressed optimism about reaching an agreement soon.
It is to be noted that the defender’s current contract runs until June 2026, and he has quickly become a mainstay in Barcelona’s defence under Xavi, who sees him as a central figure in the team’s future.
The Blaugrana view him as a significant part of their identity and are eager to extend his contract to secure his place at the club for the long term.
Challenges in Cubarsi’s extension
Due to his young age, Cubarsi is unable to sign a long-term professional contract just yet.
However, Barcelona have offered him an immediate salary increase and a higher termination clause, currently set at around €10 million, to reflect his growing importance to the team.
Once he turns 18 in January 2025, a long-term professional contract will kick in, expected to last until 2030 or 2031.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are also negotiating a substantial buyout clause, aiming for an amount similar to other young talents like Lamine Yamal and Gavi, around €1 billion.
A youngster with the potential to succeed
Cubarsi first appeared for Xavi’s team in a Copa del Rey match in January. Since then, he has participated in 20 games this season, solidifying his position in the squad.
Barcelona view him as a jewel in the team and a player who can help shape the present and future of the club.
