Thomas Tuchel prioritising coaching Barcelona, but club has some doubts – report

Thomas Tuchel was rightly one of the most in-demand coaches in world football a few years ago. His stints at Borussia Dortmund and PSG were special in their own ways, and he only added the cherry to the cake by winning the UCL title with Chelsea.

The German tactician signed for Bayern Munich in March 2023, but his spell has not quite gone to plan. With close to four months to go, the Bavarians appear set to go trophy-less in what would be a devastating turn of events.

Barcelona hesitant

It is not surprising that Tuchel is one of the many candidates Barcelona are considering ahead of the next season. With Xavi publicly announcing his decision to step away, names like Roberto de Zerbi, Hansi Flick, and Julian Nagelsmann are on the list alongside Tuchel as possible replacements.

According to SPORT, Tuchel prioritises coaching Barcelona and is willing to wait so as to sign for the Catalan club. Only a move to Manchester United sits at a level close to as tempting as the Barça job as far as Tuchel is concerned.

The report states that Joan Laporta has always liked Tuchel because of his style and the way he manages the adaptation of the young talents from the academy to the team.

The Blaugranas, however, are far from impressed by the tactician’s recent failure at a top European club. His poor season with Bayern Munich places him lower on the list than he would have been a year ago.

After all, his management at Bayern has been erratic and he has ended up clashing with some heavyweights in the locker room.

A decision needed soon

Tuchel is represented by Pini Zahavi, an agent who shares good connections with Joan Laporta and also represents Hansi Flick and Robert Lewandowski. Roping in the coach, thus, will not be difficult but Barcelona are hesitant to hire him.

In any case, a final decision on the new manager is expected in the next few weeks. Both Deco and Laporta will be critical in the eventual hiring, which is now pointing in the direction of Flick more than ever before.
