Barcelona set to offload two midfielders in the summer – report

An important summer awaits FC Barcelona as they look to strengthen their squad but that requires them to part ways with some players in order to reach the 1:1 rule.

While at least one big sale will likely be on the cards, one can expect Barça to part ways with players who are not a major part of the plans moving forward.

As such, there will likely be a sale of two midfielders in Oriol Romeu and Pablo Torre come the summer transfer window, as per The Daily Briefing.

Romeu out of favour at Barcelona

Signed from Girona last summer, Romeu started the season well and was a permanent fixture in midfield for Barcelona.

However, things went south soon after for the veteran Spaniard as he quickly fell down the pecking order and is now clearly out of favour under Xavi Hernandez.

The manager sees the likes of Andreas Christensen, Sergi Roberto, and Ilkay Gundogan ahead of Romeu in the order of preference at the moment.

And with Barça planing to sign a new pivot midfielder in the summer, there does not appear to be any space for Romeu, who is widely expected to depart.

Girona, for their part, have shown some interest in re-signing him and a return to Montilivi might be on the cards.

Pablo Torre to bid goodbye?

Meanwhile, Pablo Torre, currently on loan at Girona, could also be shown the exit doors in the summer.

The young midfielder endured a difficult debut season at Barcelona and has not played much since joining Girona last summer either.

While Barça do not doubt his quality, given the competition for places in midfield, it is believed that they do not see Torre play much.

As such, an exit in the summer is likely, with a loan option or a sale with a buyback clause being considered.
