‘Will have no problem’ – Atletico Madrid president hints at Joao Felix continuing with Barcelona

The future of Joao Felix beyond the ongoing campaign, when his loan deal at FC Barcelona expires, has been a major subject of discussion in recent weeks.

The player, for his part, has made it clear that he wishes to continue with the Catalan giants but understands it is not entirely in his hands.

Barcelona are also eager to keep hold of the Portuguese forward but an agreement with Atletico Madrid is proving difficult due to the latter’s demands.

The Blaugrana have instead been pushing for another loan deal with a purchase option included for the 24-year-old.

Atletico Madrid president pretty much confirms Joao Felix stay

Now, Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has all but confirmed that Joao Felix will be staying at Barcelona beyond the ongoing campaign.

Speaking to COPE earlier today, the Rojiblancos chief commented on the ex-Benfica wonderkid’s future and said:

“He will have no problems staying at Barça because he is a magnificent player. We want him to succeed, because he deserves it and because he is one of the best players in Europe.”

Cerezo’s comments come only a week after he had dropped another huge hint about Joao Felix remaining at Barcelona.

“He is playing for Barcelona and it is normal that he wants to stay there. Barcelona want him and he wants to stay there, so everyone is happy,” Cerezo had said last week.

“He has fitted in very well at Barcelona, he is doing very well, and what we wish him is all the luck in the world.

“I don’t know how much Atleti would get for him. That’s something you have to ask the economics people, I’m a sports person.”

Joao Felix has been a handy addition for Barcelona this season even though he has gone through bouts of inconsistency over the course of the campaign.

In all, the 24-year-old has netted nine goals and set up six more from 35 matches in all competitions.
