FC Barcelona Has World’s Most Expensive Young Player

FC Barcelona boasts the world’s most expensive teenager in Lamine Yamal, who has seen his value increase by an astonishing $145 million (€134 million) from $12 million $157 million (€11 million to €145 million) according to a weekly post by the CIEF Football Observatory.

The CIES Football Observatory used the 459th issue of its Weekly Post to present a list of “the world’s top 100 players who have not yet turned 23 and whose transfer value has increased the most over the last six months.

Lamine, still aged 16, obliterated the competition by some distance, with Benfica’s Joao Neves finishing in second place with an increase of $78.2 million (€72 million).

Elsewhere in Catalonia, Manchester City-bound winger Savio, currently at Girona, wasn’t fare behind with an increase of $75.3 million (€70 million).

Other names worth mentioning were former City forward Cole Palmer, who finished in fourth, fifth-placed Palmeiras striker Endrick – who will soon face off against Lamine in El Clasico when he joins Real Madrid – and another Sky Blues wideman in Jeremy Doku.

The CIS Football Observatory’s list took in players from 55 clubs across 12 leagues, with the most players – 29 – coming from the English top flight, the Premier
PINC
League.

Lamine was one of 17 La Liga stars, as the German Bundesliga provided 13 and Ligue 1 in France 11.

Of all the clubs, Brighton was the best represented with six players out of the 100 as Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Ajax and Eintracht Frankfurt all boasted four.

Back to Lamine, the teenager featuring as highly as he did shouldn’t be a surprise to many that follow Barca – or perhaps the Catalans’ Champions League quarterfinals foes Paris Saint-Germain.

As Joan Laporta recently explained, the Qatar-backed club recently lodged a $215 million (€200 million) offer for the Mataro native which the Blaugrana president knocked back despite his club’s well documented financial struggles since the pandemic.

Alongside fellow La Masia gems such as Pau Cubarsi and Gavi, Lamine is viewed as the long-term future of the reigning Spanish champions and recently signed a sponsorship deal with Adidas.
