Xavi and Deco’s relationship restored after controversial comments about the ‘Barcelona DNA’

Deco’s words regarding the ‘radical change’ in Barcelona’s order caused quite a stir on the web. However, if a report from MARCA is to be believed, everything is fine between the Barcelona employees after the sporting director explained to the manager that his words were taken out of context.

“A radical change is needed. There is a method that is finished. The President is with me. We need to find someone who breaks up with the past and moves: towards a new model,” said Deco about Barcelona’s managerial situation. 

By the look at it, it seems as if Deco was directing a verbal attack, but the reality is entirely different.

Deco and Xavi had a meeting

According to the aforementioned outlet, Xavi and Deco called for a meeting to address the recent controversy arising from the latter’s comments.

This was extremely needful as the statements had sparked significant debate as they were initially perceived as questioning Barcelona’s playing style.

During the meeting, Deco emphasized that his remarks were never intended to cast doubt on the team’s playing model, as suggested by some media outlets. 

Instead, he sought to shed light on the transitional phase the club was undergoing, especially in light of Xavi’s announcement that he would be leaving the coaching position at the end of the season. This announcement signalled a period of change in the team’s direction.

What’s the verdict of that meeting?

Fortunately, the coach, having a solid rapport with the sporting director and sharing frequent discussions on their football perspectives, understood the clarification. In fact, their history as former teammates at Barcelona contributed to their mutual understanding. 

Thus, when questioned about Deco’s alleged criticisms, Xavi was taken aback, given their close relationship.

Meanwhile, prior to the meeting, the journalist responsible for the article issued a statement acknowledging a misinterpretation in the content. He clarified that Deco’s intention was never to cast doubt on the club’s model and extended an apology for any confusion caused.
