Barcelona priced out of a move for controversial Manchester United forward – report

In addition to a defensive midfielder and the fullback positions, Barcelona are also on the lookout for a new winger to add to their arsenal in the summer.

With Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Ferran Torres all excelling down the right wing, Barcelona are in dire need of a new name to provide fire-power on the opposite flank.

Given their financial constraints, however, Barcelona are having to look for cost-effective alternatives, as opposed to going after a world-class talent. One such target has been Mason Greenwood.

Meeting between administrators

According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona administrator Deco met with Manchester United’s sporting director Matt Hargreaves earlier this month and discussed Greenwood’s future among other topics.

The administrators even went to watch the youngster in action for Getafe the next day to obtain a clearer understanding of his performance and value.

The Spanish outlet reveals that the Red Devils’ administrator asked for a fee between €40 million and €60 million for his signing in June, a number that is simply out of Barcelona’s reach. The Catalans have thus moved out of the race as it stands.

The unsaid factor

Greenwood has been in good touch with Getafe this season, scoring six goals and providing five assists in just 24 league appearances for the club.

His good performances have attracted interest from several clubs in England and Italy, but there is a reason why Manchester United and Barcelona are keeping their distance from the player.

The 22-year-old was extensively linked with criminal investigations over the past year after being associated with sexual assault.

It was the same fallout that caused his career at Old Trafford to come to a screeching halt, and Barcelona understandably do not wish to get themselves in the muddy waters.
