Transfer Rumors and News

Barcelona working with superagent to secure 24-year-old forward’s loan signing for next season

The excitement has reached fever pitch at Barcelona as they take on Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League next week.

As Barcelona approach this game, Joao Felix could prove to be a crucial cog in the attack. Despite his inconsistency, the Portuguese forward has come clutch in crucial matches this season and he may do so once again versus PSG.

With much excitement over Felix’s performances in crucial matches, the Barcelona board is working ’round the clock to try and retain his services for the season ahead.

Barcelona working with Mendes to retain Felix

According to ESPN, Barcelona are working closely with superagent Jorge Mendes to sort out the future of Felix.

It must be remembered that Mendes played a crucial role in convincing Barcelona to sign Felix in the first place, despite Xavi’s resistance.

The same Mendes is now involved in an operation to try and convince Atletico Madrid to send Felix on another loan spell to Barcelona.

Mendes, who is also working with Barcelona for the extension of Joao Cancelo’s stay in Catalonia, is one of the most influential agents in world football. He also shares a close relationship with President Joan Laporta.

Atletico Madrid want Felix gone

Atletico Madrid, for their part, want to offload Felix as soon as possible. Coach Diego Simeone has a tiff with the Portuguese international and has already pressured the Atleti board to get rid of the player in the coming summer.

Atletico Madrid, though, would ideally like to sell Felix on a permanent deal as they want to get him out of the club’s wage bill.

Therefore, Barcelona and Mendes may have to do a lot of convincing if they are to extend Felix’s loan spell. Atleti, after all, may push for a mandatory option to sign the attacker come the end of next season – something Barça may object to.
