‘Everything was true’ – Joao Felix claims Manchester City superstar wants to join Barcelona
One of Barcelona’s most ambitious transfer moves, in the last couple of years, has been trying snatch Bernardo Silva from Manchester City.
The Portuguese midfielder has been a fan of Barça since childhood, and was pushing for a move away from Manchester a couple of seasons ago. The move did not go through eventually, with City demanded nearly €100 million for his services.
It remains to be seen if Barcelona will still try to pursue a move for Bernardo in the summer, but have certainly been given a boost, courtesy of on-loan forward Joao Felix.
Felix claims he has convinced Bernardo
Speaking to eSport3, Joao Felix spoke about the prospect of Barcelona signing Bernardo Silva in the summer.
“Everything I said about Bernardo Silva was true. He has asked me about placed to live in Barcelona, places to eat, the safety here, tax issues. A little bit about everything,” Felix said referring to a previous interview where he urged Barça to sign him.
He made a huge claim soon after, “I think I have convinced Bernardo to come to Barcelona, but it does not depend on him.”
The good news is that Bernardo’s contract with Man City contains a £50 million (±€58 million) release clause that comes into effect this summer.
The bad news, though, is that it is unlikely that Barcelona will be able to shell out that amount on a position that is not a priority for them, unlike holding midfield and left-wing.
“If Bernardo comes to Barcelona, I will ask the club for a commission, I think I have convinced him,” Felix added jokingly.
Barça Universal’s take
Bernardo Silva’s quality is not in doubt even for a millisecond. Not only is he constantly available, but can play across the pitch as a right-winger, no. 10, false 9, and even deeper in midfield in a double pivot.
He has immense quality across all these positions, as well, truly making him a unicorn footballer.
However, it would not be the best idea for Barcelona to pursue a move for the Portuguese as a priority.
They should be focused on signing a holding midfielder and a left-winger, and only if these positions are reinforced should they consider going for Bernardo, and that is if they somehow have money to spare.
