Joao Felix scores, Xavi gets sent off: The first-half from Atleti 0-1 Barcelona

Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid has quickly become one of the best fixtures in La Liga across the last decade or so.

With the teams often exchanging players, and engaging in multiple competitions while fighting for the same trophies, tensions are always high, producing high-quality games.

And today was no different as the Wanda Metropolitano hosted Barcelona tonight for gameweek 29 of La Liga.

Both teams were coming off exciting Champions League wins and had made a fair few changes to their starting lineups.

It was a more than cagey affair for the opening 35 odd minutes or so, with Atletico evidently the better side of the two.

However, the Catalans grew into the game after that, and created back-to-back moments of magic.

First, through Robert Lewandowski’s cross for Raphinha that went wide, but then through Ilkay Gundogan and the Pole combining to set up none other than Joao Félix, who has now scored in both games vs Atletico.

Xavi was yellow-carded minutes later for protesting a no-call on a foul, before being sent off for presumably saying something to the fourth official, with his team up 1-0.

It was certainly an entertaining affair, with the second-half perfectly set up for more intensity and controversy.
